C25K and wtf is wrong with my nose

I re-started the C25K program today. I had finished the first week and done every interval as I was supposed to (although I was going to repeat the week just because), but came down with a nasty cold the night of my third run and had to take a week off. I started it up again tonight and did well. I didn't even need my rescue inhaler when I got home! Whoop! Improvement already :)

However, I'm about ready to rip my nose off my face (you guys know I'm really dramatic, right?). Every time I run, either inside or on a treadmill, about half way through, my nose begins to burn. I'll come home and take a zyrtec and smear vick's in the nasal membranes (lovely image, I'm sure), but it never takes long for the sneezing to come on full force and the sinuses to drip, drip, drip. Apparently it's called exercise induced rhinitis; something about putting the cardiovascular system into overdrive can release too much histamine, creating an allergic reaction of sorts (holy crap! I sound like I know what I'm talking about!). I call it "allergic to running." It's not going to stop me from doing it, but I really need to find a solution. This is exactly what happened last time when it turned into a full-blown cold. All you smart people out there, if you have suggestions, throw them my way.

Super lame post today. What else is new? I'd bore you with the newest drama of trying to get into nursing school, but I'm off to shove my head back into my advanced physiology notes-- exam numero dos is tomorrow. Gross. Hope you all had a great day!

I just finished Week 2, Day 1 yesterday, and OMG. Shin splints are of the devil, SRSLY. The good news is my lungs are not in pain when I finish, and that is good progress (for me) in only a week. I hope you get your exercise-induced rhinitis under control. That stinks.

Good luck on examen numero dos!

You already know this because you commented on my Facebook status, but Week 2, Day 1 of C25K sucks. Really, really sucks.

I wish I had something legitimate like "allergic to running" to say.... I just hate it.

It seems like someone told me about something you can put in your nose (Vicks Vapor Rub like) but it has an anti-histamine in it. Maybe that would help! I'd say it'd have to be in the cold/allergy aisle. I can't say I've honestly seen it myself, but someone told me about it the last time I was having allergy issues.

I'm going to redo Week 1 this week before I move on to Week 2. Good luck to you!

You are going to be an awesome nurse--smart & humorous. I wish I was smart & could give you advice...but that's clearly not the case. My sister is in med school but I'd never do that to you--have you take anything she says seriously. Hope you are better & good luck on your test!!!
